Words are NOT enough

During this time, it is important that we recognize the innocent Black lives taken unjustly such as Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and many more due to police brutality. STAR Arts proudly stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement. STAR Arts would also like to wish you all a Happy Pride Month! It's a time for us to celebrate everyone in the LGBTQ+ community and their right to express who they are. In this time we honor those who have fought for LGBTQ+ rights such as Marsha P. Johnson a Black trans woman and Sylvia Rivera a Latina trans woman, who both were prominent figures in multiple LGBTQ+ movements. We know and understand that words are not nearly enough during a time like this, so we would like to share with you our plan to take action and actively show support for the movement.

STAR Arts Core Values:

Love

Trust

Community

Imagination

Excellence

STAR’s core values and mission statement are based around culturing an environment where ALL students, no matter their ethnicity, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, or ability can feel comfortable to express themselves. We have always, and will always promote the idea of staying safe in body, mind, and spirit and we will always emphasize your child’s personal and artistic growth. However, there is no room for discrimination of any type. It not only goes against STAR’s core values, but also our personal values. We promise to provide a safe space, and that will never change.

Now is the time for action. STAR Arts is committing to...

  • Bringing a message of unity to all communities across California by holding a Flowers for Freedom Fundraising Workshop and donating funds to support the Lula Washington Dance Theatre in Los Angeles whose mission is to "build a world class contemporary modern dance company that travels worldwide with contemporary modern dance works that reflect African-American history and culture."

  • Continuously promoting inclusiveness and compassion for our students’ diversity

  • Continuing to educate ourselves and staff of the current events and ways of staying active in the movement

We thank you STAR Families for all your support and we extend our gratitude as you continue to help us grow and spread joy through theatre and video. We can’t wait to see you at our fundraiser and our Summer program. We wish you a safe and healthy summer.
